What the badges actually mean

Three states, three fixed definitions. No fourth one that quietly means "paid us".

The three profile states: Unclaimed, Claimed and Vetted Pro Unclaimed Built from public sources. Nobody has taken it over. Claimed The owner proved it's theirs and keeps it current. Vetted Pro Photo ID and insurance, checked by hand. Not sold. Three states. No fourth one that quietly means “paid us”.
Unclaimed

Nobody has taken the listing yet

We've built the profile from public sources so you can still see the ratings — but no one from the business has confirmed it's theirs, and the details may be out of date. Treat the reviews as the evidence, not the profile.

Claimed

The owner has taken it over

Someone has proved they're behind the business — by clicking a link sent to the email already on file for it, or by being checked by our team — and now keeps the details current.

Vetted Pro

Documents checked by us

The top tier: photo ID and an insurance certificate — public liability is the one we ask for — both sent in, both checked by hand, neither expired. Verified by us rather than self-declared, and the badge drops off the day the cover lapses.

Every result card carries its badge, and you can filter the whole directory by any of the three. Search the directory →

How the ranking works

The order isn't for sale.

Most directories will happily sell you the top spot. Ours can't be bought, so here's the whole rule, in the open.

Vetted Pros sit in a band above everyone else — that's the reward for handing over ID and insurance. Inside each band, trades are ordered by a confidence-weighted star score: a single glowing five-star can't leapfrog a trade with a hundred solid reviews, because a rating counts for more the more reviews stand behind it. Distance comes next when we know where you are, then how recently the profile was added.

With one guardrail: a Vetted Pro who earns a genuinely poor record drops out of the top band and ranks on merit like everyone else. Vetting proves who someone is — it doesn't excuse the work.

Directory questions

What it costs, where the ratings come from, and who decides the order.

Is the directory really free to use?

Yes — for both sides. Homeowners can search every listing and open every profile without an account and without paying. Trades pay nothing to be listed, nothing to claim their profile and nothing to manage it: no listing fee, no subscription, no commission and no charge per lead.

Where do the ratings come from?

From the platforms the trade is already on — Google, Checkatrade, Facebook, Yell, Trustpilot and Bark — plus any reviews left directly through TradeyRated. Each platform's rating and review count is shown separately on the profile, with a link through to read the reviews at the source.

How is the Tradey Rated Score worked out?

Each platform's rating is converted onto the same 0–100 scale, then combined as a weighted average. Every platform carries its own weight — the trade-specific ones and Google count for most — and those weights are set by us, never sold. The scale is deliberately demanding, so a middling star average doesn't read as a good score, and a platform that's connected but has no reviews yet is ignored rather than counted as zero.

Who builds the listings, and why are some unclaimed?

We do, from public sources, so the directory is useful from day one rather than empty until businesses sign up. A listing stays marked Unclaimed until someone from the business proves it's theirs and takes it over — which is free. The ratings on an unclaimed profile are real; the contact details may be stale.
